Knit skirt fabric options

Know what you wear

It happens so often that we pick out a dress or a skirt and wear it without even knowing what fabric is it made of. We come in the help of those who do that with a small guide of knit skirt fabric options in order to understand and to wear the right fabric for the right skirt.

  1. Double knit

You must know from the beginning that there are three major types of knits: double knit, single knit and rib knit. The double knit it characterised by the fact that it looks the same on both sides, so you won’t be able to tell which side is right and which one is wrong.

They have some stretch in the composition which makes it really comfortable to wear. To take advantage of this kind of fabric, you could wear an high-low flowy skirt.

Due to the fact that there is no wrong side to it, the inside back of the dress will look exactly like the front which will make it really easy to wear. The double knit it a little bit heavy, but this will only be in your favour because the skirt will have a certain posture and it will drop nicely along your hips and legs.

  1. Single knit

The single knit is a little bit different than the double one. This one is more lightweight and very stretchy. If definitely has a right and wrong side and if you take a closer look, you can distinguish the two by stretching the fabric.

In this way, the right side will curl up and in this way you’ll know which one is it. Being so stretchy, this kind of fabric is recommended for tight skirts because they will beautifully hug  your curves and your silhouette will be flattered by a material like this.

  1. Rib knit

Last but not least, there is the rib knit. This kind or material is the most common and easy to recognize because its texture has some specific pattern.

To some materials is more visible than to others but if you take a close look you’ll be able to spot it. What is characteristic to this knit is that the edges must be finished in order to stay in place and to have a clean and neat look.
